You have done the right thing reporting it, I reckon it is a 353, I would keep it if the saw is in good working order, you will find it difficult to sell now you know it has the serial plate missing so if it is OK, just keep it. It has an OEM top end and that is probably more than a lot of saws out there have.

I think this has got blown out of all proportion, the saw could be genuine, just had a new crankcase, police! can't believe you have done that, yes ser no. between the handle and tank where it joins under the oil tank, if it's there all should be sorted.

Andrew , way , way back in this thread there is a photo of the plate missing .

Oh, however if it had a new crankcase and one of our top quality dealers forgot to transfer the plate, then there could be a perfectly innocent answer to this, i cant believe this thread has gone on for so long, send me the bloody saw and i will tell you what it is, sorry had a shit day.

I think the lad should keep it . He paid money for it , there is no proof it was stolen or not . There is nothing he can do now ( as he has been instructed by plod ) It works , it cuts wood . Earn some money from it .

It is a heavy life in corporate world isn't it, top wages, no stress, big pension;)

It will be a 353....if you look at the top of the cylinder, it isn't a 346XP, that is for sure, it is OEM and therefore it looks like a 353 to me....the top end would be too rare to fit on a 346 bottom end so it is a 353.....Sherlock!!

Oh...the caveat - I am but a mere scummy independent working from a shedB|

What ever it is, its old, old type air filter, old type inlet manifold clip, cant rule out 351, who actually cares, Stubby has the right idea, just use the thing,

Hi All,

So its all over got my money back from ebay and sold the saw on to my gardener ( i did explain the condition of the saw to him). Managed to recoup about 80% of my costs so not that bad.

I have now ordered a 550xp mk2.

Thank you all for you help and advice and apologies for being annoying!!

Have you heard anything from the E bay seller, as he has lost the saw and his money, did he have an explanation for the missing ID tag?

Posted

Nope he had no credible explanation.

First he said he wants back saw on original condition or no refund and that he has record of all parts. I then said you getting saw back in better condition. I also asked for the serial number as he keeps records to which he did not reply.

However, he did say all his saws are authentic and that he gets them all from Stihl Germany ?
