I own a stolen recovered 357xp that looked as though it was a week old when i bought it at a Garda auction in 2008. It too had the VIN plate removed to hide it's identity but when after a filthy stint of utility arb cutting i washed the saw down with brake cleaner to remove crud, sap etc is when the white adhesive sticker containing the serial number became detached from between the fuel tank and crankcase as the brake cleaner scoured away the adhesive,  this was handy as it came in useful to know the year of manufacture when i was ordering spares for it. I'd be upfront if you list it on Ebay as a stolen / recovered saw in order to cover yer arse.  A MK2 550xp will serve you well.

I think this has got blown out of all proportion, the saw could be genuine, just had a new crankcase, police! can't believe you have done that, yes ser no. between the handle and tank where it joins under the oil tank, if it's there all should be sorted.
