Ive been to look at a scary thing today. Very large old Beech pollard riddled with everything bad, crown braced with multiple cobra straps with 3 big limbs snapped out  and hung up in the bracing. Im considering shooting out the cobra with some extra heavy duty shotgun cartridges. Has any one tried this before?

Having got bored on a few drey bashing sessions and messed around dead wooding oaks, and also knocked a lost throwbag off a high limb with a .410, I would say with a tight choke and a heavy load you might manage it, but you will be taking quite a few shots. Presumably it's not in a built up area?
