Too right, one of our chaps thought he was climbing an ivy covered ash, cutting the ivy as he went up, unfortunately he had notched the top of the limb he chose as an anchor and we all know how stresses act on a notch...

 

With the poisoning I wasn't considering climbing but felling.

Yeah, I figured that.

 

I have injured myself twice in those trees, they are like no other when it comes to splitting and branch breakout. 
 

I am kinda prejudiced!

This is the 1st time I've seen or worked on one. It was quite an eye opener how the easy the fibers break.


The one that's left needs blocking down on it's self. I'm really not sure I fancy that tbh.
Any top tips?

And you've only worked on two? 

 

They sure weed out the unwary, with quite large limbs breaking under you.

Horrible tp work on, my first one snapped from under me fortunately I had a good top anchor.

I think that they're classed as 'invasive' here and are problematic in many countries. I've seen a few that were forming small copses, but most that I've worked on were singletons.

It's actually a good feature tree, on a mostly bare stretch of an embankment.  Third party wants it removed ' for light in their garden ' my report contains expletives.... K
