Do you store them out of sun light?

As I was just going to put a lorry sheet on top

I store them out of direct sunlight ie. in a shady part of the wood when not in use.

They spend most of their life out in the sun full of logs.

(1) Cages from an IBC tank. These are sturdy and a good size; this would still be my preferred option if it were not for cost and availability. £40 a tank seems to be the going rate, so a couple of dozen tanks would cost me the best part of a grand.

Shop around. I have 48 coming today after he drops 42 off to the other person sharing the full load.

Inc delivery around £16 each for just cages.

That's a great price. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places...

Has anyone thought of using heras fencing to make cages ? you can buy them off of eBay damaged for a few quid ! I used to use vented bags but now use used stock fencing wrapped round pallets as I’ve got loads of it 500+ meters used

Yes, thought about it but four panels would make a heck of a cage and then there's the issue of handling when you want some logs out of it:  just opening up one side could cause an avalanche!  I decided against but did seriously consider trying one for seasoning softwood.

? I meant cutting / bending  up the panels to make smaller cages to put on a pallets !

For chunks of softwood I was happy to seriously consider it.  I reckon they would have dried OK with a roof.

Academic now - I' not going to try; I'll stick to IBCs.

Would there be enough airflow

This is what I wonder. There must be an optimal ratio of (external) surface area to volume for a pile of wood like this.
