Have a makita EA4300

Needs a new sprocket guard cpl  (rat ate the old one as I use veg oil) and noticed there are two listed:

159   159-161441-6

159a  159A-161792-7

Makita PS420SC Petrol Outdoor Chainsaw Spare Parts - Part Shop Direct

Dealer reckons the second is a  part for a newer version of the saw?

Anyone have more infos is it an improved design how do I know which one I have already?

161792-7  says for long chain tensioner pin

161792-7 USA: 2017-02 =>KETTENRADSCHUTZ KPL. ROT (FÜR LANGEN ZAPFEN)

Had problems with the tension slide pins being weedy and getting knackered

(worn & bent) got through 3 or 4 so far. So it does sound like a an improved upgrade design to accomidate a longer pin.

Makes sense to get that version and  a new improved tesion slide pin also. Assuming they fit on the ea4300 as well as the dolmar 420sc.

Not sure the teals brethens cover one  has this newer version?

The longer pin shouldn’t make any difference to the side cover I’ve chopped and changed from red too blue covers and never had any problems

your chain tensioner shouldn’t be breaking there pretty robust here’s a couple of

points that should help

1. make sure your bar nuts are loose enough before you turn the adjuster screw

2 make sure your chain catcher isn’t bent or comprised as it affects the depth the cover fits into the frame as shown in photos 2 and 4

the adjuster pin runs along a groove in the chain cover so it can’t go out of the place

it sits and has a good travel length as in photo 3

photo one shows the chain catcher and a standard chain cover
