What System do you use and why?

Hi,

From being in the industry for a while now it seems everywhere i go someones doing something different with their lowering equipment/technique. So do you use a portawrap and one pulley block? Drum pulley? Hobbs? GRCS? Speedlines etc, and any little tricks you have learnt from 'on the job' style? Also why do you like the system you use? Simple, controling, cheap, quick to setup.

Just curious on how you get on with your system + keen to learn a few new problem solving tricks that may occur.

I like climbing with as many tricks in my bag as possible, because I like being groundie when a climber isn't limited to one style.

You win!

Actually, I agree with you. Crane is just one option I like to keep open, buts its one of my favourite type of jobs.

i tend to use a portawrap if anything. youd be suprised at just how big a piece a 13mm rope will handle. most of my work has always been possible to just cut and drop, or step cut and thrown. iv even used two tape slings a fair few times. i find it builds your confidence more if you just climb out a little bit further and cut it smaller, you wont need a lowering system and it makes it much quicker and easier to clear up later.

I have been training crews for the last 7 years. In this region the most common scenario is one that requires Negative blocking. A porty, 9/16" x300' double braid, and a 5/8" sheave block are standard kit.

If the opportunity arises to use a high angle block, then the GRCS will get used for sure, Speedlining, Drift lining(pendulum), High pick, crane, are worked as the need arises.

For most jobs it is a negative line angle show.
