Rocking Horse.

Seen a nice Rocking Horse someone made on here and thought I’d try and make one for my wee one.

 

It’s made out of the first tree I Milled, a Beech. And an oak I milled too.

 

The dowels are Walnut.

 

If I make another I’ll deffo invest in a spindle sander. [emoji16]

 

I need to cut off the raised part of the Saddle as it digs into her bum. Then oil the horse part.

It’s not that difficult to do really, just need the right tools and a bunch of time.

The band on my band-saw snapped so I bought a nice DeWalt cordless Jigsaw to cut the templates out. Most of the bits came out great, but a couple not so great which resulted in hours of sanding. would have been better waiting for the new bands to arrive. ? live and learn.

A trim router really helped. And needed to buy a bunch more clamps, plus the dowels.

Infact it might have been cheaper just to buy one. [emoji23]

Forgot to add when I did mine I didnt use a spindle sander but found a router and rounding over bit sorted all the curves.

I bought a trim router for all edges. I think a spindle sander would be great for all the bends/radius on the legs etc

Nice horses guys I would love to make a chainsaw carved one out of one piece ,but time , the one my dad made me looked like yours Lazarus, I loved that horse , the happiness on your daughters face is ace ,cool as
