This issue of "not pulling in" is often asked and it happens to all woodchippers with a "blow off" valve in the spool block. On a GreenMech it is set to blow off at 3000psi, if the spring in the valve looses a bit of tension, it will blow off at a lower psi. Get it checked and re-set then replace the big spring as they can also loose their "pull".

Nice point about the pressure setting Pete, but what do you think about owner sharpening of rollers?

I have heard of it being done, in fact I did a couple when I worked in the GreenMech service department some 10 years ago. The thing to be aware of is the gap between the rollers, some woodchippers have a "stop" to prevent the top hitting the bottom, if there is one then you can adjust the gap. If there ain't - you could end up with too big a gap between them for thin stuff. Generally speaking, as long as there is some kind of edge and the spring is in good nick then all should be okay.

the chipper i was using today was rubbish on anything less than 3-4cm diameter. would a 2003 timberwolf 150 have an adjustable gap?

May just need crap clearing from around the roller carriage, bits of chip and twigs get trapped stopping the top roller from coming right down.

Nice one Pete, i have done mine before, but wondered if there were any major problems such as altering the temper of the steel.
