Dumper into log splitter

i ve fitted hydraulic take offs on my dumper it works the splitter fine just have to pick the revs up on the engine a bit and also if you are thinking of keeping it all working as a dumper you will need to fit a diverter valve on the just befor the main spoolvalve, this will divert the hydraulic oil to the splitter otherwise it may not work

Ive a 3/4 ton min digger,going to research viability of a splitter on that,I have a worn ouy bucket to make a mount.

 

Should be quite good - don't go too dig diameter with the ram and it should be quite quick too. Are you thinking having it to use from the cab (a bit like a woodcrakcer but the other way round) or just mounting a splitter to use stood next to it?

I've thought of fixing a splitter to the back of mine, so I can still load with the front. Mine has no bucket, it has a loading arm with forks on instead for stacking. It can lift a full dumpy bag off the ground by the loop handles so is quite handy.

 

Many old dumpers have 800cc aircooled Lister diesels and they only make about 4hp according to specs, although to be honest they feel like they are more powerful, how much power do you need to run a decent splitter ?

Small hp is always a difficult one as you can either go for a quicker flow rate but less pressure or more pressure and less speed.

 

Smallest petrol one we do is a 9 tonne on 5.5hp and that's not that quick - so I'd think you'd struggle speed wise on a decent sized one to make it work well on a 4hp engine

I should be OK on mine, it has the Lister 1600cc twin, at a massive 8.2hp :blushing: , but a lot of the smaller 2 wheel drives have that 800cc single.

 

I confess to being a bit sceptical of these HP figures, I wonder if they were measured or just relate to CC of the engine in some archaic form because they feel more powerful than the figures suggest.

Still mulling it over, but thinking about using the old bucket as a mount,( it has a quick hitch for fast bucket change fitted),and running the splitter as stand alone and boom mounted,using the gradeing blade hydraulics to run it.

needs some thought,but I like the idea.
