I would say it's to determine whether you will need to carry and wear glasses On Track, so prescription glasses will need to be safety glasses as well. Usually there is a color blind test also. 

 

Carrots will not help. That was a ruse to hide the fact we had effective radar guidance for night fighter spitfires in WWII, you will turn orange from the excess beta-carotine. ... k

Stihl emergency services goggles can be worn over glasses.

Something must have changed as I just wore prescription spectacles with plastic lenses. Mostly I was IWA but and ordinary mesh visor with other PPE was all I needed when sawing.
