Should a referendum on Scottish independence only include people living in Scotland?

It's taught them that their approved liberal left metropolitan mindset is not in any way representative of wider society.

I don't imagine for one minute though that it will encourage them to become more representative. They'll just fight all the harder to re-educate the plebeian masses.

Laura Kuenssberg was roundly criticised by many on the left for a perceived bias towards the Tories.

Who are you claiming she favoured?

I havent been on arbtalk for a while

and just today came across this thread. It makes for interesting reading thats for sure.

Any of you who know me by my previous posts know im pro independence but not at any cost.

Im not anti english or anti british,

i fought beside lads from all over the UK and were all the same when you avoid talking politics.

Where the game changes ,

in the forces,is with the rupherts(officers)

Usually stuck up,self entitled arrogant pricks born with a destinct superiority complex and a silver spoon up their fuckin arse, exactly the same as most tory Mps.

Given that Scotland has returned more Snp Mps to westminster means the thirst for independence has indeed increased.

Enough for a second referendum? Well that depends which way you look at the figures but figures can be squewed to suit anyones rhetoric so im not sold on the 81% claim by Hosie.

I agree with trigger on most of what he says on these pages im also pro independence, anti EU membership but we differ in the fact i vote Snp,i'll just add at this point that the Snp are by no means socialist the are pro capitalists who actually fit into the neo liberal model, the same as Labour under Tony Blair.

I vote Snp as i see them as a vehicle to independence and anyone who votes Snp knows that is their number one priority.

The last 2 elections have seen an upsurge in Snp votes and with it comes the undeniable democratic right of the scottish people to decide on our future.

Should the rest of the UK be allowed to vote on Scottish independence?

I dunno...

I think most english folk would say if they want to go  let them.

Most see us as dour faced fuckers who steal all the money and the rest of the UK would be better off without us anyway.

Some on here have looked to the past to justify independence but for me its more important to look to the future.

I believe we would be a wealthier nation, not wealthy just wealthier, than we are now if we had full control of our nation.

As for the once in a lifetime shite i think its exactly that- shite!

3 general elections in 5 fuckin years dictates that politics changes, peoples opinions change, priorities change so an election or refetendum csn always be justified in guaging the will of the people.

In my opinion J's politics are chaotic. Juts because they are written in an eloquent way does not change that. They range from  left wing, centralist to extreme right wing. That to me is impossible to follow, the fact that he repeatedly stated no party represents him and his ideals somewhat backs that up.

Good grief, I'm an individual! ?

Just now, Mick Dempsey said:

I’ve noticed this before, for some peeps you pick your spot on the political spectrum, open the handbook on what your opinions should be and follow them, no deviation allowed.

Exactly.

In my early years, I was very left, but have moved much more to the centre ground in the past 10 years. Negotiating with some investors the other day, I am reminded that I am a very long way from being a Tory. I have no personal issue with generating wealth for myself (which I should add, I haven't yet) but I won't do it at someone else's expense.

Politics is what you make of it. Once you define yourself by your party, swallowing their rhetoric verbatim, you disengage your brain and your credibility. All the parties have at least a few good policies. Some just have more than others.

With the Tory party now having to account to noone, we're in for a grim 5 years. I only wish that labour could have ditched Corbyn et al years ago so as to offer a robust and meaningful opposition.

I know you are J. But you seem to expect the system to bend to your will and not vice versa. It seems to me that as your unique set of parameters are not catered for you believe there must be a flaw that needs addressing.

There is no party in Scotland that represents my unique political recipe. I don’t believe changing the system to appease me is the correct course of action. I can pull my big boy pants up and see that maybe indi#2 is what the people here want even if it’s not what I think is best for Scotland right now. Voting Tory in my county would have been a waste of time. I’m not gonna get my huff on and greet that my views are not being represented!

So am I right in thinking that the older someone gets the more right of center they become? There is a few here that will be spitting into their beer tonight if that’s the case! ;)

Any examples?

edit, do you mean the Uk remaining in the EU, or Scotland’s remaining in the UK?

As a leaver she’s possibly largely what put me off the BBC. All her reporting on Brexit seemed biased against anyone keen on supporting Brexit.

Scotland, At the time, didn’t feature in it.
