Crane work

I used to pay £700+vat a day for a 50t crane with insurance. They only want to do contract lift now. When I got them to price an easy day's job the price went up to £1900+vat.

Why I have not used a crane in a long time! Did try and book in a job last year ..given a choice but they then insisted it went to contract lift as they would not take the risk ... and they wanted a full on road closure which would of been a few more k .

Just wanted to revisit this thread as a colleague said that crane companies will now longer risk doing contract lifts and at present there is no insurance company in the uk that will insure tree companys to carry out works with a crane.

So basically if anything goes wrong while using a crane it all comes down to you.

Does anyone know if this is true.

if you read the small print you'll likely find that it always comes down to you anyway

Will your insurance company cover you to carry out tree work as mine seems not to.

I'm going to speak to the broker to try and get a clear answer.

I completely understand why contract lifts are the only legit lifts, it is a requirement from the HSE is it not?

We have to do full lift plans for using our mewp at building sites now (most) including establishing the maximum ground pressure 😴🤨
