i can turn you some contrasting dowels if you want.

i'd stick to oak thought.

at 15% you will be fine just to give a coat of oil but it will shrink a bit once in a heated environment.

as a joiner myself i know quality when i see it mate. well done.

Damn, I should have come to you and asked if you had any for sale. Ive now bought some Walnut Dowels I'll see how they look compared to the Oak ones I already have.

Thanks for the complement. :)  Its big old chunky stuff though, so no real finesse. Still, very satisfying.

Thats a lovely bit of kit! That would have knocked my sanding time from two days to a few hours! :D

And ditto the workshop, its lovely and amazingly tidy!

Things a beast and would 1 hour tops depending on what belt used ?

So Ive hit a bit of a boo boo. The Boards (I dont know the correct term)I have for connecting the Foot Boards to the Head Boards are too short. :( Its not like I cut them to short, its the length the Log was cut to when I got it.  So I Boards need to be 200cm long for the mattress to fit. But the Boards are only 204cm long. Ideally Id need them to be 212cm for the Tennons so they'd match the Head and Foot Boards. Is there any tricks I could use to salvage this? Or should I start looking for new stock?

I have some 2"x8" Oak Boards that I milled in the start if the year and has been drying since. Would that be a big no-no to use? Ive not even bothered checking the moisture content as I dont see the point yet.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

You could house the tenon by 1cm and then use dowels. You'd have to be very accurate with marking where they are to make sure it fits properly. Only problem is with gluing it all together is that itll be hard to move around. I recently made a dining table which had draw bored mortise and tenons on the long rails and then festool domino connectors on the short sides so it can be taken apart. If you knew someone locally with a domino machine it would work well for your bed.IMG_20190824_121218.jpeg

Thats stunning! Lovely work.

Unfortunately I do not know anyone who builds furniture.

Would the below idea's work? As you mention the only issue is having to glue it all together. ?
