Identification please

Hi can anyone tell me which type of tee these logs are from.

Basically i bought a load of them almost 2 years ago and although they are reading atound 15% moisture they dont burn very well.

Looks like Oak to me.

 

Great firewood, but performs at its best when mixed with something faster burning in my experience

Could be elm, famously a poor burner.

It could be elm as it is really difficult to split

with nice medullary rays like that it is 100% oak but can't say which species.

I was going to say the first pic looks like oak but the second looks a bit like elm (although I don't have any elm here to burn). I would tend to go on smell as well, oak smells quite strongly.

 

I thought elm should burn ok if well seasoned, I think it gets a bad rep as it's a very wet wood when fresh and needs a long time to season.

 

When you say 15% moisture, is that from a freshly split face from a large log?

When you say doesn't burn very well do you mean with little flame - the stuff sort of sits there glowing?  That'll be oak.

Great looking stack of oak firewood.
It'll take at least 2 years to season that maybe 3.
As Steve says mix it up with other dry woods.

Yes very little flame to it. I have a boiler stove that heats 8 radiators so when i burn this i notice it generally does not get as hot.
