not a forgotten art in Galicia, Spain Tony.........came across these last summer. Still very much practiced resulting in some very special trees and a very special landscape.......get over there mate you'll love it:thumbup:

wow! love the tree on the right, looks like it has lots of faces trapped in the tree, very spooky :001_cool:

A really nice row of Salix alba pollards, propper old ones, been done for decades by the look of them. Would have gone for a closer look but the lone bull in this field looked decidedly unfriendly and Ive looked after a herd so I know when its not good:laugh1: !

Not a pollard, but an art all the same and of the same principals, an old layering of hornbeam, and the best example ive seen to date. A totaly random find in a small section of beech woodland, obviously part of a once extensive boundry, simply beautiful:thumbup1:

Everyonce in a while i get a whiff that just has to be followed, I pulled over and strolled through brambles and came out of an intersting little wood into a graveyard with some seriously wieghty old vets.

This pollard is as good as it gets, and with other trees on the site ive got some tape and data logging to do for the ATF over the coming weeks, shall get started on a load of vets i need to record while im at it.
