I stand to be corrected but I'm sure my brother and his mates removed the baffles from the exhaust to get them doing 60+

My old Ariel Arrow 250 2t twin used to do 70 mph in third and then drop down to 62 mph in top ! You had to be flat on the tank but .

Think I got 48.

To get 60 you’d need to alter the gearing, otherwise it wouldn’t happen.

Not played with em myself, i had a Peugeot step through at 16, put a Severn race exhaust on and played around with the nylon guides that drive belt used to ride on, did about 52mph flat out. Then moved on to Gsxr’s, Bandits’s, Mille’s after that. Got nowt now! [emoji22]

Mine was 74 I think, purple, drum brakes, fetch around 3k now!

I wouldn’t have believed your brother in the 70s, no reason to change my opinion.

I had a look last night, a good tidy one is £3-4K!

My brother just reminded me. he used to tie me with a length of rope to him to make sure I didn't fall off!, apparently our mum threatened to kill him more than once if any harm came to me...

When times were simple.

On the subject of mopeds for 16 year olds.

whilst the FS1E was the most popular by far, Suzuki’s offering, the AP50 had 5 gears and was probably a bit faster in a straight line but blew up far too often, so was rarely seen (at least in my parish)

The only genuine 60 mph 50cc moped was the Fantic GT (pictured) one guy at school had one, it was the subject of considerable envy.
