I have some dead Elm trees to remove from a listed building grade A in Aberdeenshire. The grounds are designated a garden and designed landscape, do I need permission from Historic Enviroment Scotland before felling them, they are not in a conservation area or have TPO's on them.

Thanks in advance

Habitat piles, as extraction would trash the plantings in the noted landscape unless you used a garden tractor.

However, it would still be good practice to let Historic Environment Scotland know.

Already spoken to them on the phone and confirmed with an E-mail, which they have declined to reply to.

Historic Scotland confirmed to me a couple of years ago that Listing does not protect trees. Even if they are in a CA or TPO, they're dead and therefore are not protected.

If they died of Dutch Elm Disease the last thing you want to do is take them off site or even move the stuff around within the site.
