I love Holidays.  Presently 4 days into mine.  Stuck in a q at Stockholm airport waiting to check in with the kids to fly to Ibiza.

I hope you have a good one mate.

Definitely agree you need to go with the family, I think you are spot on saying you are making memories for your kids. And like EdwardC says there is no rule to make you go to the beach every day, that would drive me bonkers too.

It can be hard to switch out of work- and that’s probably a good thing as ultimately it means we enjoy our jobs and holidays aren’t the be all and end all which might be the case if your cooped up in an office or factory all day. However I do try and have time away with wife and daughter and they really needn’t be abroad, some of the most relaxing holidays we’ve had have been less than 100 miles away from where I live in Devon. We go to Dorset, Cornwall, next week we’re off to Exmoor area. For me the the long car journeys to airports- airport queses, (hate flying too) general hassle and organising of foreign holidays takes some of the joy away from the occasion.

I love Devon and Cornwall, unfortunately the last few times ive been have been anything but relaxing due to the sheer amount of people visiting. I basically gave up going.

Just getting ready to fly back to the UK from Cyprus. This is the first holiday in years I’ve really disconnected from work and properly had some down time, it’s been great and really good for me and my marriage . Made sure I removed myself from all work related WhatsApp groups, limited what emails I looked at and responded to, etc. Had someone ‘step in’ to take care of my responsibilities back home, knowing they will probably do it differently to me but it will still be there when I get back. I’ve had to come to the realisation that the world won’t stop turning if I’m away for a fortnight.
It’s been a good mix of relaxing and ‘doing stuff’.
Wish I’d taken this approach years ago.
