this why nobody does awt any more too much red tape & b/s folk scared of getting shafted for helping out :thumbdown:,when i was younger it was all hands on deck :biggrin: we go round clearing snow @ the old folks flats ,etc it was nothing to with money ,you just did it :thumbup1:

Interestingly, a claims adviser was on the local radio on this subject. His advice was that if you attempt to clear snow or ice of roads/walkways etc you are accepting liability for the conditions. You then have a duty of care to ensure it is safe. By leaving it people make their own choice as to if they think its safe to use said roads/paths, and they have to accept that risk.

also make sure how the contract is worded, as if your gritting it normally becomes your liablility if someone slips over on it, which is why many shopping centers outsource this work

the chance of being sued is exactly why external contracts exist for this work, and why big companies like tescos and out of town shopping centers out-source the contracts to bypass their liability, so if you slip carrying your crimbo dinner out of tescos, its not their fault, it will be the third party contractor you have to chase for a claim, :thumbdown:

Its treally crap isnt it. I hate the way that if we as the public are incapable or unfortunate- such as slipping on ice- we have to find a scapegoat we can sue for compensation. Its ice- take care.DOH!:001_rolleyes:

Older gent fell over on ice in my local superstore car-park yesterday. Big crowd and all sorts of mumbling. One onlooker said they'll go and speak to the store manager! :confused1:

At the customer service desk she started explaining. I was near enough and couldn't resist - "Yeah, it happens" I said monotonally, walking away...

Andy;

we do gritting on commercial premises mainly business parks and car parks to get in with these contracts its not what you know but who you know! we started doing a contract on a particular business park for one occupier now we do 70% of the entire business centre, there is money to be had but its not all good going out everynite between 22:00-05:00 becomes a chore. buy your rock salt in summer and have good stocks for winter (try buying salt at the moment).

oh and when someone slips /crashes its you they come to sue! so have good insurance.

these guys are up your neck of the woods Icewatch - Keeping your car parks and walkways ice-free
