Hi I recently got a Stihl 024 with no bar and chain. Cleaned her up and got a new Oregon bar and chain. Fitted it up but once tightened down the bar moves up and down 5-10mm. Initially I thought the cover might be the culprit as it was a plastic piece. Had the same issue after trying the metal cover off my 038 but decided to order a genuine metal 024 cover. Same issue. Decided to then replace the bar studs as I thought they could be worn. But still having the same issue... Any suggestions?

Is it moving 5 to 10mm at the tip of bar? If so dont worry about it. Tension the chain until the tip moves up then tighten the nuts and it should be about right

Do you lift the bar tip while you are tightening the nuts ? There looks a fair bit of play in the bar slot.
Always.... Wondering is it the bar at fault? [emoji848] It's brand new and was ordered for an 024...

I was wondering about that too, doesn't seem to have a wear plate but also can't see a mounting location for one emoji848.pngf492d3c8d8eefdb28cd0509d09dfa5aa.jpgab50d6ca7b13070f1303003d24ca3d72.jpg948b714f21998a802064aa0008b62b9c.jpg

It's missing the inner side plate so the bar isn't nipping up

Does that just sit over the bar studs? Doesn't seem to be any location for a small bolt like on my 038.
Thanks!

I've just looked on L&S engineerings website and they do show one that clips over the bar studs..... no little screw like we are used to. ?

Appreciate that! Ordered one so hopefully this'll solve it and I'll finally be able to use it! Thanks
