Straight oak wanted mid Wales

We're looking for a couple of lorry loads of straight oak for making fence posts if anyone has available. It doesn't have to be milling grade or anything. As long as I can straightish lengths out of the majority the rest can go for firewood. 

 

We can arrange haulage if needed and distance isn't an issue for the right quality/price.

Big J has some nice straight oak but Devon is a fair distance.

Haha, I think haulage might be more than the value of the wood thanks. I probably should have phrased the distance part better. I was thinking more along the lines of didn't need to be as local as usual.

Thanks, might be worth looking at costs of backloads if I can find a lorry going that way. I hate the fact there's lorry loads going from near us to Kent but it might prove useful. Fingers crossed I find some closer but I've got a couple of contract fences coming up so I'm playing it safe.

It's only 3m long and not that girthy. Fairly straight though and would make excellent posts. Could easily do a lorry load.

Do you just use them bare or dry and treat them as well? Got a fair bit of fencing coming up and was going to get some chestnut in. Hadn't considered oak

Not sure it would be worth treating if it’s got a good lump of heartwood in there. Creosote aside I think the natural durability would outlast most treatments. Also Oak won’t split as easily as chestnut when driving, Chestnut can be an absolute bugger for splitting open if the ground is fairly hard.

Yep, just use them bare. We always staple into the split side and side up the strainers to make sure we're in the heartwood and get 15+ years out of them.
