Large tree very close to house

Question

Looking for some help please.

We we are in the process of purchasing our first house and there is a very large I think birch tree approx 1.5metres away from the front of the house. It is approx twice the height of the house.

We we live in the south east where the soil of a clay mix and I am terrified of subsidence or heave and costs of removal.

We are of course going to seek further advice surveys etc but can anyone put my mind at ease in the mean time ? Is this a deal breaker?

thank you

Personally I wouldn’t have thought so, tree will have to come out anyway.

@£250 quid plus vat to remove.

Why does it have to come out? What about the other vegetation also?

Because it’s 1.5 meters from the house and twice the size.

Yes it does seem to have outgrown its situation.

Mind I would have guessed the soil was an acid sandy soil rather than clay. In which case not much chance of subsidence or heave.

Nice load of logs from it would suit me ?

Looks a modern house. Recent build against shrinkable  clay soils. Re BS5837. I would be happy to leave it alone. Seen big cracks in similar builds if so subsidence has / will occur you would be seeing it. This house looks sound.

Obviously I charge for such advice. Or I am just another blatherer on the internet quoting from a pic. K
