There is one of those 3 pot perkins engines here Al, as said above the dipstick is in the sump right next to the filter housing.

recently serviced or pulled out of a hedge

Pulled it out of an old atlas copco compressor about ten years ago and its been living under a tarp ever since. I reckon  with a drop of squirt and some leads it will fire up and run like a swiss watch :)

Still can’t find it
The following photos show the sump and the boss on the side where you would expect the dip stick to be, but feels like the top is blocked off. The engine mount makes it very hard to get to.

What is the cylindrical thing circled in yellow in one of the photos with an spade connector on the end?

Al your circled gizmo looks like a sender unit for a leccy oil pressure gauge , if it was mine I would forget about the dipstick for now. Just drain it of oil and refill with a couple of gallons of fresh oil just to get it running.

Sounds like a plan! Itching to see if it works!!

I suppose a 15-40 mineral type oil for this old engine?

I can't tell if the lump with the circle is part of the fuel injection pump above or protruding from the engine block? If it's on the pump I thought maybe an electric fuel shut off but if it's on the block then I also guess oil pressure sender.

It’s on the block. A manual for
the engine turned up today and shows that a oil pressure switch can be fitted there. [emoji1360]
Shows the dipstick on the other side of the engine, but couldn’t see
anything there either.
