Battery saw

Hi, does anyone carve with either an electric saw or battery saw.

I'm wanting to do more carving, but to do so I will have to do it in my garage, so a petrol saw is a definite no no.

I have a cheap Bosch saw which I have just bought, but I'm thinking about getting a battery saw. Will a battery saw stand up to the continuous stop start of carving.

Never used a battery saw for carving. Suppose they might be alright, but you have alot of trigger time so expect you will chin the batteries pretty fast ( depending how big things you make are.) I know a day carving usually uses alot more fuel than a normal day climbing/felling.

What ever you consider check that the trigger isn't just on/off. Pretty poor trying to carve with electric saws like this. I have had a husqvarna 321e and a stihl mse 220 for carving. Dont really get with either but the stihl is better. But numb and cumbersome, but doable if your confined to a garage!

If not battery, what corded saws would you folks suggest? I was looking at the battery ones, and what they ask for the saw at the start and then the batteries afterwards, has turned me off of them rather quickly. I want to get in to doing more carving up in Wicklow in my back garden instead of having to go all the way back to the estate in Waterford I'm a forester of. Mebbe @shavey has the Makita versions in stock?

Hi Wyk
Shavey is sending me one of his 18v dolmar saws to try with a carving bar on. So I'm looking forward to trying it out. Also I have a cheap Bosch electric saw, I've not tried it with carving but it's on my list of things to do. I got the Bosch as it was on special offer for about £50 when I saw it.

Had a go with stihl msa 120 today. Great little saw but trigger is on/off no where inbetween. This may well effect carving

Anyone know if this is the same on the 160t? Or ms200 @roughhewn?

Trigger is variable on msa160c & the msa200c,  they really are the best for detail work not so much for general carving with 1/4" carving chain and bar, real slow chain speed and very grabby,  but great with the r7 carving bar and tiny 0.43?micro pico chain
