Could always do your trailer licence, not sure on cost though, mate of mine did his a while back and think it cost about £650, but not 100% sure.
I passed in 99 but i’m exempt from the laws because i have my class 1 hgv licence, also another option for ya, but its expensive for that theses days, your up at nearly £3k i think now to do class 1.

Your not exempt. You were give a BE licence.

Your CE does not apply to cat B vehicles as they dont weight enough.

The C part does not start till the vehicle is over 3500kg.

So you still have to comply with BE rules.

Top tip: Do the test in your own vehicle and box trailer (assuming you have one) expect to fail it then book it again.  Total cost £230.

Yeh & learn so much that way.

Top tip buy a saw & keep cutting. It will fall in the end. ;)

I think this thread is really dangerous, and that’s because if and when you get stopped by plod or vossy.... and you say I’m legal to drive and tow this cos a guy on the internet said I could..

mr vossy or plod will just hand a ticket out if you in the wrong.

my answer is, understand the rules and see where you fit within the rules

btw,as odd as it may sound. I was told just because you have an hgv licence doesn’t mean you can drive a car with a trailer, but that was a while ago and I never bothered to look into it because I do not have a hgv licence. Also things like rules change from time to time..

but the really way is to look on your licence see what groups you have then look on the gov's web page

for example I have C1+E, if I was not careful I could think I could go up to 12t  but I have code after it  “107”   What this means is limited to 8.25t

all I’m saying is understanding the rules is the best. as it will be your pocket that pays and licence that’s endorsed, not the guys on the internet. ?

Whilst I am partially with you.

This is what I do for a living.

I know & understand the regs.

I have had to correct info on the Gov website so many times its crazy, put the police right quite a lot too.

Even DVSA get it wrong / dont know all the regs.

But as i passed my test before 19th jan 2013 i am exempt from the 3.500kg ruling?
