Firewood or sell in the length?

I am a small sawmill so I would mill it and sell the timber in a couple of years when it is dried.

 

I’ve bought a small sawmill. A Logosol B751. Will take a 30” log.

 

What dimensions would you Mill it to? I’m trying to visualise what you’d Mill to make a good enough profit to buy a single log for £450.

About 157Hft  if that measure is correct, a big stick about 5 tonne green??

Well I have customers who buy dried boards for furniture and joinery etc.  It would yield about 100 cubic feet sawn timber so this would eventually return around £2000.

I guessed the diameter was the thick end so I made it about 118 hft.  4 tons.

Thanks.   Good to know. Id not really have bothered with Ash before but sounds its like its worth milling and drying. 

 

What thickness would you suggest?

Well personally I mill Ash to the following thicknesses in mm 19 25 32 38 50 63 75 and 100. But I have spent many years finding customers and outlets.  I suggest if you do not know who the customers will be maybe 32 and 50 or 55 mm are very useful thicknesses.

we used to mill small ash (9QG) at 2 1/8" for gate hurdles
