Pollarding is good when certain criteria have to be met. But would not recommend it for amenity trees unless it's programmed for species specific areas. Many London planes would benefit from a restart like this.

This tree is a lapsed pollard, my beef here is that the tree has not been returned to previous pollard points or, failing that, a new higher set of pollard points hasn’t been established in a nicer looking form.

 

This stuff about cuts being too large in nonsense, everything in trees is species specific.

This is a lime, any and all pruning methodology should have the species as it’s first consideration.
