Hi, I'm looking to store enough firewood this summer to help finance starting up on my own. I have a barn to store it in and I've already started building them up in 1.8m high stacks(on pallets), they are all hard wood and mostly beech, the logs are approx. 300mm. My Aim is 10K but how many cubic meters do I need to make 10K at a middle of the road whole sale price? I've read loads on these forums and Im always confused when every one talks about cubic meters and cords, loose logs etc. what should I expect for 1m cube of stacked neatly end to end logs? Thanks for your help.

Put them in bulk log bags, 133 at £75-£80 a bag delivered should get you near 10 k

Round our way a dumpy bag of dry hard wood logs is going for £85, so about 120 loads needed. I would ask round your local area and see what it'll support.

Assuming you are talking about builders bags, not cubic meter bags?

That's good money for builders bags, £65 round here.

Although thinking about it, that shouldn't be a surprise to me- I did 2 bags to a mate in Liverpool when I was going that way for a job as he couldnt find any for a sensible price.

Blimey!! Take in to account time and fuel is it worth it!? I think £70 is cheap.

Not far from me, someone is doing 3 year old, dry stored dumpy bags of beech for £40. Almost be worth buying the lot and selling on.

So you are stacking the logs? 1 loose cube is around 0.8 cube when stacked. We sell for £115 for a loose cube but £100 should be doable in most areas if you have well dried logs I would have thought. So 80 stacked cube should raise 10K excluding all costs though. I would do plenty of shorter logs as stoves seem to be getting smaller and smaller in our experience so have plenty of logs at 9" . Our sales are 2/3 rds of the shorter logs.
