working over asbestos roofs

Have a job to price, removal of a storm damaged leyland cypress. 

No access tenements behind, garages in front 8ft walls to sides.

BT pole with about 12 lines going through tree.

The garages are about 6m front to back with a corrugated (asbestos?) roof with a slight fall.

No real option of ziplining.

 

Various options :-

1. Contract lift crane tree up and away in a few lifts process in car park in front of garages. Quickish but expensive.

2. Large cherrypicker. Cut small swing round drop bits in car park to process. Slower than crane prob 2 days.

3 . Board out asbestos roof . Do tree as normal. lower down to boards, wall across boarded roof, drop into car park and process .

 

If we went with the boarding roof . What would be your preferred method. We normally board out with 3/4" 8x4 sheets of ply,  would it be better to put anything under ply to cushion roof as not in best condition. We would need to board anyway in case anything dropped.

Put in ridiculously stupid price ( get local asbestos guy on hand ) and do it any old way ! ( I already have price in my head ) k

A lot of these asbestos looking roofs are other harmless materials, best to find out for sure.

 

In 2003 I broke dropped a noggin on an asbestos roofed outbuilding, and punched a hole in one sheet.

 

They had to get special guys in wearing spacesuits to replace the whole thing.

 

Cost my insurance company a penny or two.

Already thinking stupid price. Contract lift price of £1700 plus vat. Already 2, 1ft sq holes in roof where 1 stem came down last wk, already cleared off

We’ve done a few like this, very similar. Like Mick says, there’s a fair chance they aren’t asbestos and more than likely to be the white kind. (But if it is the harmful kind that does up the ante)
We’ve usually boarded them out, rigged and lowered everything and maybe put some car tyres on the boards to cushion any larger bits. And, of course put in a price that makes it worth while.

Very unlikely to be an asbestos roof, it will more that likely be a cement roof which may or may not have slight asbestos in it. 

I would take pictures of damage already done, then board.

Apparently one single garage roof has replaced recently with box profile sheet at a cost of 4.5-5K, so either the sheeting is the real deal or the customer had their leg lifted.
