I think what happens is grit mixes with the grease and causes the bearing to seize.

Instructions when new was to lubricate it but that was the problem, grit from the tree stuck in the oil and jammed it up. Since replacing the nose sprocket I've not bothered to oil and have had no problems now for over 5 years.

interesting Brown Oak today , usual nails  a little rot but mainly lovely deep brown colour (not shown well in the photos) saw dust looks almost like paprika

Hey arbwork, it looks like you’ve got the miser cutting well ! Couldn’t help but notice your using a metal detector in one of the photos - Is it worth while or do you just detect the mill the whole time ! Wondering about getting one - do you know what brand it is ?

Nice Brown Oak ,I have just made a big dining table and 2 benches out of brown oak , but I can’t post any pictures of it yet as it’s for a fellow arbtalker that hasn’t seen it yet and I don’t want to spoil the surprise ,brown oak is bloody expensive as I just found out but is nice to work and looks ace.
