Wasn’t this answered as a Caucasian wing nut on another thread?

 

Looks like some kind of evergreen shrub to me. Garrya does seem likely.

 

Edit. Just seen better pictures on the other thread, and does look a bit wingnutty.

Thanks guys, that's really helpful. From your steers I thinks its likely to be Garrya fremontii, the leaf looks more correct on this species. The pictures on the other thread are from a different tree though, and that one is not caucasian wingnut.
