It’s temperature at night that should dictate when you prune not time of year wait until all heavy frosts have passed heavy prune good mulch to feed it should go well

Depends on your objective.  Pollarding would make denser shade in a smaller area--maybe not good for lawn?  Thinning would make lighter shade in a larger area.

Personally I'd consider letting it grow to full-fullish size.  Sod the lawn; what's more valuable?

very good Guy. Yes probably because in the old England we say turf generally while across the pond it is always referred to as "sod" as I am sure you are well aware. But in England "sod" as you may also know goes down another route (pronounced root in England) entirely.

Across the pond is it possible to commit  turfemy " ? ?
