Laser measures

Just a quick one and it’s probably come up before.

 

Anyone have any laser/height measuring devices they swear by?

Used/borrowed the dewalt site lasers before now which are a good thing, but quite expensive to buy, and the dewalt distance lasers which i found hard work to get the hang of but they worked, but again theyre expensive. Nothing too conclusive there for ya soz, others may have better knowledge [emoji106]

I bought a bosch 40m laser measure (was about £70), it is OK up to 20m (if it's not too sunny), I wouldn't recommend it and will be looking for something better eventually.

Well expensive but a brilliant bit of kit. Has a camera on which allows you to measure even when you can't see the dot. And it has a function that allows you to measure height without having a reflection from the top. Does it with angles.

There does seem to be a big gap.

Basically £20 the £100+

none of the cheap 100 or less measure height, they measure the length of the line. Nothing stopping you using a straight line laser with an angle finder and then doing the math.

Or you can buy a machine and press the button.

 

You need the leica on a tripod so it can do the trigonometry and give you a actual height measurement.

 

Should get a used one for £3-£400. 

 

We use one on site for measuring roof heights and pitches.

I use a Leicia D8. You might need a tripod to get an accurate reading,  but where accuracy is not that important you can do it without.

The Leica can be hired to try. £25 a week from A-plant.
