tw125 squealing

My tw125 is 10 years old, but i have noticed in the last week a bit of a squealing noise coming on and off when using it. Its not had the flywheel bearings done and am thinking this could be making the noise? Is it about time after ten years to change them anyway or any ideas what the noise could be?

Take off the drive belts and run (by hand) the wheel, it should be silky smooth and turn for a long time.

 

This is the best way to test the bearings, do that first.

is it easy enough to take off the drive belts and put them back on at the same tension? Im not much of a mechanic but have learnt to change blades and service rest of the machine myself

Yes, loosen off the tension, slip off the belts et voilà!

 

Check the tension before you take them off with your finger (amount of play with pressure from a single finger) and replicate it when retightening it)

 

Take your time, be careful and you won’t go wrong.

 

If it is the bearings, it shouldn’t be more than 3or4 hours work Max (plus cost of parts) for a pro.

Best tool if you are taking something apart your not happy doing is the camera on your mobile phone.

Is there any other possible things the squeaking noise could be coming from apart from flywheel bearing?

My 150 squeaks from feed rollers if forget to grease them after chipping dusty conifer.

Apart from the flywheel bearings, could be:-

 

Drive belts 

Tensioner pulley/bearings

Fan belt

Water pump

Alternator

 

Delete the last 3 items if the squeak is only when chipping and delete as yours is a 125 and i am thinking 150. dohh

dont think it is the rollers as the squeaking is still happening when rollers are on stop

And as woody says dry feed rollers, or something jammed down the side of them
