I was skint last chrimbo, so everyone got chopping boards, some carved with names. They went down very very well. Cant use danish oil for food products tho. Tung oil is my fave, with a lovely nutty smell and very good water proofing, but i think Mr Leach is the person to ask about that.

I would be careful with tung oil on food based products too as wiki says;

Food contact and allergic reactions

As the source of tung oil is a nut, people with nut allergies often report adverse reactions to contact with (or even the odour of) tung oil. Reactions can be severe in some cases. While tung oil has been used for many centuries as a finish for kitchen items such as wooden bowls and cutting boards, some individuals must avoid its use.

Some oils go ransid as well after a few mths, so still need to be careful what people put on.
