Tractor Hydraulics For Forwarder Trailer

Can anybody help. Looking for a tractor 100-120hp for pulling a timber forwarder. The forwarder will most likely be a 8 ton botex or something similar. Can anybody help with what is required of the tractor hydraulics?  Will any hydraulics be suitable? Been looking at Case MX110, New Holland TS115, New Holland TS100 or possibly a Valtra. Mostly for work on hard standing tracks and on the road but will also go onto thinning and clear fell section when the ground is fairly dry.

new trailer or second hand ? just plug both feed and return pipes in to spool block on tractor and you should be fine all them tractors should be well on top of the job

Looking out for a used one ideally 8 ton it's just a matter of finding the right one at the right money. Thanks that's great, so only need one spool valve + hyd breaks?

I don't know enough about modern tractor hydraulics but assuming the flow and pressure are enough to power the grapple loader then yes but I am not aware of any case where you should use the standard return to the tractor spool as it is too restrictive, take the return to an unrestricted port, normally directly to the rear axle.

 

Do any tractors have closed centre hydraulics nowadays? I just wonder because it means you can have a more sophisticated  control of the loader hydraulics.

It all depends on the valve block attached to the timber forwarder, get the specs on the valve block (required flow rate, pressure, closed/open centre, pilot hydraulic possibly) and this will dictate the hydraulic requirements from the tractor and also connections required. 

 

Not as straightforward a topic as one might think.

we run a junkari trailer on a A93 valtra and its plenty sufficient on a little above idle.  lifts big enough sticks to take trailer onto side easy and crane to limits.

 

all bought through alistair young engineering, 

 

depending on where in uk you are other folks may be able to show you one working.

Ideally you want a spool and a return, if it has a slewing drawbar you'll also need a second spool although at worst you could swap pipes between loading and transport.

we have three spools, does have slewing drawbar on trailer.

8 ton botex ? Ours has its own hydraulic tank and runs off the pto.
