Some just seem less attractive to the vector than others. There was a mature elm a couple of minutes up the road from me that I've watched for ten years. Last year there were a few yellowed branches, this year it's gone. 

 

Maybe the number of host trees has an affect on vector numbers, as well as how isolated they are.
