Considering buying this chipper brand new.

My van with tools in weights 3200 - 3300kg and it needs to go in the van so I can't really get anything bigger unless I get a second vehicle.

Figure I can take the m500 and my whole arsenal of tools for clearances and fencing and pull the tipper trailer that'll take 2.5 tons including cage and ramps so I can just throw branches thicker then 120mm on to the trailer no problem.

What are your thoughts?

Why does a lack of criticism from  you make me nervous..

No idea..  but I have considered ever possible alternative of doin tree work..  including what your suggesting..  chipper in back of van,  chip into tipper trailer..

do that with the small jobs, and hire a grab wagon if the jobs on the big side..  being a one man band one tends to have to think out the box...

Yeah well I'm seriously considering it cos I can't put a 1 ton tracked chipper in the van without doing 1 hours work emptying tools before it goes in, if even that is enough.

Question is when. I could fail my bloody tree tickets lol. But I figure even if I never ultimately went into tree work directly it'd save me a minimum of £100 a month in disposal and time at a minimum, right away.

Dunno...

I'd like to see the stats on failing your tree tickets..  I expect the failure rate is close to zero..

so I wouldn't be worrying about failing those..

So all you have to do is think about your chipper tipper combo and how you think it makes sense to you..  as I see it you end up trading convenience for time on the job..   be quicker with a bigger chipper to get through the waste, but be easier to run a smaller chipper into the back of a van..  plus its out of site from the thieves when its in there..  something else to consider as a plus..

How much quicker though? I can't imagine it's a hell of a lot unless you're talking about a 200mm chipper which you can put small trees through entirely.

I reckon the convenience of being able to drive it in an out of the van or trailer and in gates would immediately be a time efficiency upgrade on a towable that could do 150mm for example.

Do these things get wrecked if the odd fence post with a few nails goes through? Is it a total no no or will it just dice the nails without damaging the carbide.. I assume they are carbide teeth..

Also, due to its versatility I would imagine it's a keeper if I pulled the trigger on expansion and decided to later down the line get a bigger second chipper.
