Well I must say...

I had a 1st year ND student with me today and I must say he's impressed me. Its not his skill or his abundant knowledge of trees, its not his natural skills at sharpening a saw, or felling. Its his general attitude to the job since starting the course. Before then I wouldnt give him the time of day tbh he would stand around in a trance half the day hadnt eaten breakfast hadnt brought food for the day, generally I thought he was a waste of space.

Now he's keen to watch, learn and asks questions. He still has a long way to go, but as I've been critical of colleges and those they churn out, I feel it right to point out when the system does work.

So well done David, keep up the good work, its almost becoming a pleasure to work with you:thumbup:

(Oh and well done Otley college, you must be doing something right:thumbup1:)

You know what they say... even a broken clock tells the righ... just kidding!

It's nice to see some honest recognition of potential as well as some willingness to participate for the good of those to follow us rather than jumping on the 'students are rubbish' bandwagon. Well done Andy.

I always think it's such a shame that a few poor students give the rest of them a bad name - a negative attitude from those in a position to help out can really stifle what could be fantastic careers. Sure, you will always get some wasters but the better guys find it so difficult to get a foot in the door and gain the all important experience. It just goes to show that you never know what a bloke's like without giving him the chance to impress you.

It was nice working with you for the day Andy:lol: Only kidding. I have a ND arb lad from otley work with me and he is shaping up nicely works hard. Next week we are going to do some tree planting which he is really excited about as he has not done this before and he wants to learn the whole package not just cutting them down.
