New truck build where to get materials? Alloy planking etc

Hi there,

We are just about to start making a new chip box for a new works vehicle.

Was going to get alloy planking.... i've heard "service metals" is the place to go? From my recollection of previuos posts on here anyhow.

Is this correct?

Also where can i go to get bespoke sized roller shutter doors to fit to a tool cabinet?

many thanks in advance.

cheers Chris

I have used services metals several times and it was quick and the lengths were pretty accurate to what I asked for. I think my closest depot was Essex.

I found it a bit bewildering when I first did mine but you can ring up a have a chat about it.

I ending up buying the alloy dropsides as I liked the little lips they have on them for support. I have never tig welded so I built a still frame and used bolts and rivets to secure the alloy sides.

Was hoping to get some channel to drop the alloy planking into?

bolt it to the bed of the truck and up the pillars. Then drop the planking in....

hope this is feasible?

Hoping to do the same soon with our grafter to increase legal payload a bit, did think about going even lighter than planking and have a frame with checker sheet or something similar as a skin.

Dont frget to tape yr alloy to steel joins  or corrosion sets in there K
I painted the steel with hammerite which seems to have worked well.
