Is that not the cheese at the front of pic 3?

 

Still, assuming it's going for firewood there's less splitting required.

Yes it is but it is still in the gob . Tree starts to lean , when back cut goes in , touches the cheese that has not been " flicked out "  puts a strain on the hinge and up she splits .

It seems to be out to me, as far as I can tell from the photo. Just a small gob.

It's on the floor,  pict 3, just to the right of the gob. But the gob doesn't look like a big enough angle so what you say might still have happened. ...
