Countrywide stores

Popped in at my local Countrywide store today to see if there were any bargains to be had, most stuff with 10-20% off (including mowers, blowers, strimmers and hedgetrimmers all 10% off).

However I did pick up two 600mm pieces of heavy gauge matt black 6" single wall flue, had been £41 each, reduced down to £12 each according to the ticket, but were on a special code at the till and came up less than £4 each. Bargain if anyone needs stuff like that.

Rough time for plenty of folk working in retail though - Toys R Us, Carpetright, Countrywide Stores, hear Claire's Accessories is in trouble too.

Apparently Mole Valley Farmers were going to buy all 48 Country Wide stores but the Competitions Authority put the mockers on it.
MVF may end up buying individual stores once CW has been broken up.

Not altogether surprised to hear that but it sounds like a bulls**t decision IMO - it's not like there are Countrywide Stores and MVF generally close to each and which would cause the market to be distorted.

And in any case surely it’s better the stores are taken on, hopefully improved and staff can keep their jobs rather than allowing it to liquidise altogether.

Mole Valley are like the Tesco of the farming world though!

Our local countrywide store is a pretty dreadful and uninspiring place, If they’re all like that I’m surprised they haven’t gone down sooner. We have a couple of decent independent agricultural merchants round here that Put countrywide to shame. Feel for the staff though of course.

Hey Matt

the two up near us are exactly the same not realy a place too go unless you need too  MVP purchased the holsworthy branch 3+yrs ago

Hope someone takes over the Tavi branch. Never liked it much and found it like B&Q in that it was big store that never had what I wanted in it. Still we did use it occasionally and our only alternative is Bridgmans but they have a small depot that wont cope with influx of customers as is.
