The standard 346 caps are tool less. If you can't undo them by hand then you're just doing them up too tight.

I  know what you are saying , and I can always manage mine by hand but it is always harder than any other saws I own  . I don't think I tighten the 346 any more than the others . I think it is peculiar to the 346 . possibly it pulls a vacuum  ?

They dont fit unfortunately. There are only two types of flip cap available(AFAIK) and both are too big for the oil tank on the 346. I am fairly sure you can fit a 346 cap in the tank of a machine that will use the small flip cap but not the other way around, not that that is any help at all!

I remember always having that problem with a Stihl 046 of ours, you would tighten the oil cap up more or less by hand but when it needed refilling it was nearly always jammed solid. Always kept some spare ones of those old caps to hand as they did fall to bits eventually.

I never tighten mine up any more than usual and the oil cap is always stiff

For some reason they just need to be tightened a bit less than normal. Just snug but not tight seems to do it, and although it feels like it's not done up enough they don't come loose.
