Cheers. Nod at Treeworker does courses when there is the demand. I just bought the Samson splicing handbook and self taught and chatting to others.

There are loads of videos of double braid splices on you tube.

14mm double braid rigging line. 6 inch eye.

Ex yacht rigger here. Why the whipping [not really neccessary, but looks good] and why so far from throat of the splice? No critisism just curious.

If anyone is interested I have abot 5 sets of the selma fids left over from business that I can dig out and flog.

Will try answer splicing questions if needed, have 25 years splicing experience in most constructions

Hello, whipping is an extra precaution to prevent the splice being pulled out, this is probably not necessary on the smaller diameter climbing lines but is a real possibility on larger diameter ropes. Whipping close to the eye on the small diameter lines is very difficult so it's easier to whip further down the rope.

Low repeated loads can easily pull out a splice on un whipped loose woven braids or indeed loose 16 strands such as New England safety blue.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

But you probably know all that anyway.

Not quite splicing but pretty dam close, made up for a friend as he had busted his ART with rigging guide running over it.

tidy bro , was that very hard to do and how does the art cam run over the ocean when locking and retrieving ?

very very easy bro, just abit stitching to hold it together. folded over x3 and stitched very well and whip and heat shrink for stopper knot. stick bit tubing over before that tho for the eye. works just the same bro, i think its same diameter? maybe ART one is 6mm?

Had a bit of an issue with some polydine rigging line and a ms200t yesterday. Luckily I knicked it about a foot from the splice... Phew! Lucky escape!

I respliced it then did a couple of splices on some tachyon. He got me some funky green liros twine for the wipping. A bit different but it all works.
