Rough old bit of three strand I’ve been meaning to do for the last decade or so. Not sure why I made the eye so big. Something spoke to me.

Four reel ends from FR Jones for £35. One of the first things I bought in arb. The 8m bit was my big lanyard for years.  It’s a rare job where this longer bit doesn’t come through for a bit of crotch-butt action.

Which incidentally I pulled on with a standard 5 tonne ratchet strap. I’m reliably informed you can hit a tonne with less on the axle. I can very easily believe it.

Sorry Alex, but half the time I haven’t got a clue what you’re on about.

It is like you’re having a conversation with someone and the other persons side has been deleted.

what are you on about now?

Sorry. It's often that I'm talking about the same thing across several threads, which will be confusing I grant you.

In this instance, it's just testing a splice I made up the page here. I used a ratchet strap to pull it. I pulled it to 800 ish kilos. Someone told me they've managed to pull 1000 ish kilos with a ratchet strap. I think the reason I wasn't able to pull quite as much as them is that I had several wraps on the ratchet strap axle, increasing its effective radius, which decreases its pulling power.
