Wider picture on the issue needed - is there a chance of water-logging the roots ( leaky pond ? ) Neighbour complaint ( copper nailing )  an how long they been in ? Looks like a landscaped job to my eye ? K

Fairly new owners, when they moved in they were already dead.
I didn’t notice any lesions, they are surrounded by shingle but I would have thought they’d all be dead if that was the issue.

Ah Gary ! Tiznt, copper nail plus acidic ( sulphur dioxide air pollutant + water = sulphuric acid + copper = copper sulphate , very toxic to plants )  rainfall = nasty blue crystals seen on copper parts in some acidic water areas. k
