Good eve'

I've been caught out a few times recently needing a big saw for stump felling/cross cutting some bigger dismantling stuff I've done. Whilst I've been saving up my piggy bank money for a 390 I've been wondering if there is a more cost effective solution. I don't know a lot about porting but I know it makes stuff run like hell, would that enable me to run a longer bar?

Could I ( @spudulike ) port an old 60/70cc saw and have it run a 28"+ bar as well, or near as damn it, as a 80/90cc saw? I don't need a big saw very often at all, sometimes just for 1 or 2 cuts on a whole job! I don't want to have £900 of saw just rotting its warranty away in my shed.

Thanks,

Mark

Have used 28" bar on 365/372 before, not the quickest  but does the job but need to keep chain sharp. You could run it better if you used skip chain.

Whats your biggest saw at the moment

I have a 550 and shortly will own a 372, I'd rather have a specific saw for the 28" bar rather than use the ones I use all day as if I break them going flat out I'd be screwed work wise!

I'll have a look into skip chains, cheers.

You wont break the 372 especially if running skip, just buy the bar and when funds allow buy a 390/395. Thinking about it got a 395 on 28" that could be for sale

I'll have to set it up, I use works 372 with an 18 inch bar, anything bigger we have a 385, 390 and a 3120 so I think I just jumped to the conclusion that 70cc isn't good for much past 20 inch.

A stihl 461 will run a 28-30" bar,
but best with a 25".
Full compliment chain.
All day ,everyday.
