Transit t350 Mk7 starting problems

Been driving around all today. Stop, start, no bother at all. Just back at the yard I tried to turn it on again but it wouldn't start. Red light on the dash display flashing constant red. Got out, locked it, tried again - nothing. If I flick the key round quickly it tries to start for less than a second then stops. I'm 99% sure the immobiliser is kicking in.

 

Tried the spare key, no change so don think it's the key. Assume it's not being read by the van.

 

Pull the battery and left it out for tonight. Fingers crossed it'll be fine tomorrow when I plug it back in. Maybe not though....

 

Anyone had this? Any thoughts.

I havn't had the immobiliser play up, but went through a couple of starter motors when the original factory dual mass flywheel was on 130k (dust from flywheel break up going into starter, apparently common), had the bell housing flushed out new DMF, clutch and starter motor, been good since.

Another thing if you're not careful jumping them there is a fuse in a silly place integral to the battery earth strap, I managed to blow it and some cash as the whole lead has to be changed,  supposed to be fused to protect the ECU.

I'm near certain it is. Weird it happened just then but glad it happened back at the yard.

Tree fancier has pointed you in the right direction but I suppose you're far from NW Surrey, otherwise I have an IDS clone on my laptop, it sorted out loads of ford problems at work.

 

As both keys don't work and as long as you have left it several minutes between tries I'd be guessing the sensor on the barrel is faulty.

Mine had a similar problem. The problem kept coming and going.
One garage changed the starter motor, solved it but wouldn’t start two days later. It turned out it was a bad earth under the driver seat just on top of the step.
Month later it did it again. Bad earth under the bonnet.
Check your earths before anything else, could be a cheap fix

How do you check the earth is good? Just that they are connected/intact?

Well The battery over night made no difference. I have checked the code from the flashes and I have 12 - immo control module not working properly.
