If it doesn't idle well, there is a mechanical adjustment on the carb but it isn't that obvious as on normal carbs. You need to make sure there are no other reasons why the saw isn't running well like the piston isn't damaged and the carb components are OK but beyond that, it may just need a new AT unit as they do fail.

Thanks Spudulike.

Just hope it’s not going to be too expensive.

i took the spark plug out and the cylinder doesn’t look clean, got a lot of black residue in it.

Im going to the Stihl dealer this morning so hopefully they will find the problem.

Ill let you know what they say

So you use a 461 for 3" conifer's ? as you obviously don't own a smaller saw. We are currently felling 80ft spruce on a 45° bank, the saw of choice for me is a 241 (girls saw) uses half the fuel of 461 and 2/3rds the weight and gets the job done and I can still carry it after a 9hr day, there is a saying in life that is very true and that's WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER I use my 461 for severing 3' diameter windblown spruce and processing over size and that's its job.

.........yes, thats these days . But when I were a lad an just starting out,  461s were girls saws and lunch was a sandwich of gravel , we worked until 10 PM and slept in a waste oil drum ........sometimes we even emptied it .... but we were happy ! K

I've used one a lot. But I would not really suggest one unless you are in a tree much of the time. The 261cm in it's latest form isn't much heavier, and has much more power.

Thats an understatement Wes and yours is rather well breathed on if I recall!
